These paper pumpkins can be made with any colored or patterned paper that makes you happy. I love traditional orange and green papers but I also love quirky patterns in non-traditional colors to make these fun pumpkins. Here’s how to do it:
Easy Paper Pumpkin Tutorial
Heavier card stock is best for this project to ensure your pumpkin holds its shape.
Gather these supplies:
- 12 X 12 Scrapbook papers
- Scrapbook brads
- Brown paper bag scraps
- Wrapped candies (optional)
Tools:
- Scissor (these kid scissors are great for tiny hands)
- Pencil
- Hot glue gun & glue
- Easy Paper Pumpkins Template
- Hole punch or other sharp, pointy object to create a hole. I love this set of We R Memory Keepers piercing tools for this, too.
Step 1: Print and cut out easy paper pumpkins template. Use the pencil to trace the template onto the reverse side of your patterned or colored paper.
Step 2: Cut out the traced pattern and punch a tiny hole in the tip of every petal.
Step 3: Hold the base of the scrapbook brad in one hand and the cut-out in the other hand. Place the brad into one of the punched holes. Fold the remaining petals up and over the brad stem, one on top of the next until all three petals are on the brad.
Step 4: When there are just two petals remaining, fill the pumpkin with wrapped candies. Skip this step if you’re not using the candy. ๐ Attach the remaining two petals to the brad. Use your thumb to separate the brad “tails” and push down to secure the paper pumpkin.
Step 5: Finish these easy paper pumpkins with a stem of any kind. You can use real twigs and hot glue them to the top. Or, do as I did here and roll a section of a ripped paper bag into a stem and hot glue to the top, right over the scrapbook brad tails. I cut out two paper bag leaves and hot glued them to the stem. And, voila! Pretty paper pumpkins!
Other Ways to Use Paper Pumpkins
Another fun way to use these easy paper pumpkins is as on a festive fall themed tablescape like I did for Thanksgiving:
