Gathering Items for Your Tiered Tray

My very favorite place to look for decorative home decor is TJ Maxx or Homegoods. Full disclosure: I work there (very part time these days but I have worked there for 23 years!) so it’s very easy and VERY tempting to pick up fun fall decor when it starts to roll into the store.

The Target Dollar Spot is another favorite place to pick up fun, quirky, and inexpensive fall decor.

Dollar Tree has SERIOUSLY picked up their fall and pumpkin decor game in the last few years. I love that you can shop their fall & harvest merchandise online, too.

Some ideas of what to get & gather for your tiered tray:

Style a Fall Tiered Tray

Once you have all your decor assembled, it’s time to get to work. My tips for styling a fall tiered tray:

Choose a theme and/or color.
Start with the largest piece as your focal point. Place item toward the inner part of the tray and work outward with smaller items.
Layer items and vary the heights by using coordinating items underneath. I use these to add height.
User “fillers” like silk leaves and floral embellishments to fill gaps and empty space.
Balance the use of colors, textures, and heights all the way around the tray so it looks good from all angles and is visually pleasing to your eye.
For smaller items like the bottle brush trees I added to the cake stands: use double sided tape to adhere the trees and ornament to the stand so that they are not constantly falling over.
Add tiny wood slices inside vessels (like the owl vase) to raise up the items you want to feature (like the wooden cutlery).

I’m never fully satisfied and almost always change something around every time I walk past this in the kitchen so don’t expect it to be perfect the first go-round. Plus, you can add to it all season long!

Double sided tape

Wood slices for raising objects

Instructions

Choose a theme and/or color scheme.
Gather supplies.
Add largest items or main focal pieces to tray.
Layer in smaller accents. Vary the height until visually pleasing.
Fill in with fabric leaves and embellishments.
Continuing filling until gaps and empty spaces disappear and tray is pleasing to the eye.
